BATTERY RECYCLING
The most convenient place to recycle your batteries in Tempe is probably Radio Shack, located at 9880 South Rural Rd. You can contact them at (480) 753-1355.
BLUE BIN RECYCLING
In the city of Tempe, you may recycle the following items in your recycling bin:
- Aluminum and other metals in the form of beverage, tin and food cans, and foil food containers
- Cardboard and chipboard in the form of corrugated boxes, so long as they are flattened and do not contain styrofoam and other packing materials, dry food boxes with liners removed, shoe boxes, soap and detergent boxes, and beer and soda boxes
- Glass bottles and jars (green, amber and clear)
- Paper in the form of newspaper, magazines, phone books and inserts, computer and writing paper, file folders, paper bags, thermal fax paper, junk mail, pet food bags, shredded paper (placed in a clear plastic bag), and package type envelopes
- Plastic containers codes 1-7, 2-liter soda bottles, detergent bottles, milk jugs and clear food containers
REMOVE ALL LIDS BEFORE PLACING BOTTLES AND JARS IN THE BIN.
You may NOT recycle:
- Pottery, window glass and light bulbs
- Plastic bags
- Facial and toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and diapers
- Styrofoam of any kind
- Waxed boxes and food containers

BULK ITEM DISPOSAL
Bulk item pick-up is available to residents of Tempe at no extra cost. These bulky items include:
- Tree limbs, branches, trunks and stumps that have been cut to 4 foot lengths or shorter and less than 19 inches in diameter.
- Grass, leaves, weeds, cactus, hedge clippings that are bagged and securely tied or boxed.
- Palm fronds of any length that are stacked neatly or bagged.
- Bulky household items (discarded furniture, stove, water heater, washer, dryer, and cardboard boxes). These must be kept separate from green waste.

HAZARDOUS WASTE
The Household Products Collection Center (HPCC) collects and disposes of hazardous waste (motor oil, anti-freeze, pesticides, oil based paints, propane tanks, prescription drugs, e-waste like monitors and computers, cleaning supplies, etc.) on Fridays 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The HPCC does not accept biohazard waste, radioactive waste, or explosives. They are located at 1320 E. University Drive in Tempe, and proof of residency in Tempe or Guadalupe is required. To contact the HPCC, call (480) 858-2223.
