SAGE GREEN BIN RECYCLING
In the city of Glendale, you may recycle the following items in your recycling bin:
- Newspaper and mixed paper, including advertising inserts, magazines, junk mail, catalogs, brown paper bags and telephone directories
- Aluminum and steel/tin, for example beverage cans, clean foil and foil baking pans, soup or vegetable cans
- PET or #1 plastic containers and HDPE or #2 plastic containers, such as water bottles, soda bottles, milk jugs, detergent and fabric softener bottles. No plastic bags
- Cardboard and chipboard, empty of all packing materials and broken down; for example, corrugated boxes, cereal, cracker and cake mix boxes (without inserts)
- Shredded paper that has been tied in a clear plastic bag
All bottle and jar lids should be removed.
You may NOT recycle:
- Pottery, window glass and light bulbs
- Plastic bags
- Facial and toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and diapers
- Styrofoam of any kind or bubble wrap
- Hangers
- Hazardous materials
- Scrap metal
- Books
- Wet food boxes (like beverage six- or twelve-pack containers) or detergent boxes
All items should be clean, dry and empty and should be placed in the sage green bin with the lid closed by 5 a.m.
BULK ITEM DISPOSAL
The city of Glendale offers monthly bulk item trash collection. The schedule for your area can be found online at http://www.glendaleaz.com/sanitation/bulktrash.cfm. Additional bulk pick-up is available for $99.00, and an appointment is necessary. Call the city’s Sanitation Division at (623) 930-2660.
The city would like you to:
- Separate waste into neat, separate piles, such as appliances, tree limbs and green waste
- No object should exceed four feet in length if at all avoidable
- Stack tree limbs in the same direction
- Tree limbs and other objects must be less than 12 inches in diameter
- Fruit must be removed from limbs and prepared for collection separately
- Wood panels and wood fencing must be no larger than four feet square
- Glass must be kept separate from other items and be in labeled, sturdy boxes, no larger than 2’X2’X2’
- Yard clippings must be in securely tied plastic bags
- Cacti must be in small, sturdy cardboard boxes
- Refrigerators must have attached doors, hinges, lids and latches removed
Do not:
- Put within two feet of city-owned devices like water meters, fire hydrants, etc
- Put out construction materials, rock, gravel, sod, bunny ears or polka dot cacti
- Put out whole tree trunks or stumps
- Put out hazardous waste
- Put out tires, which should be taken directly to the landfill
- Put out regular garbage
- Place trash in the street or on the sidewalk
- Pile trash more than six feet high
- Place trash in containers you wish to keep
- Put out Styrofoam
HAZARDOUS WASTE
The city of Glendale will pick-up hazardous waste, free of charge, twice a year. Residents can make pick-up appointments March 3-28, and the collections will take place March 24 – April 11. The service will be offered again in the fall. To make an appointment, call the city’s Sanitation Division at (623) 930-2660. All items must be in their original containers and should be clearly marked to indicate contents.
Items that will be collected include:
- Paints and wood stains
- Antifreeze and other automotive fluids
- Motor oil and filters
- Car batteries
- Pesticides
- Pool chemicals and household cleaners
They do not accept:
- Explosives
- Radioactive materials
- Tires
- Drums
- Ammunition
- Medical waste
- Business waste
- More than 20-gallons of any one hazardous fluid, and any container greater than 5-gallons
